Circle of Healers (It’s Going Around)
I heard about it first on Twitter, then I saw it on World of Matticus. And then I witnessed the original on Miss Medicina. Now, I want to do one myself and luckily I was tagged on Twitter by Amber of Divine Bubbles. So, here we go!
What is the name, class, and spec of your primary healer? Lilitharien, proud Discipline Priest of the 57/14/0 variety for PvE single-target healing and damage mitgation.
What is your primary group healing environment? (i.e. raids, pvp, 5 mans) Primarily healing 25- and 10-man raids and occasionally the daily 5-man heroic.
What is your favorite healing spell for your class and why? Penance, because it does so many amazing things (like has 3 chances to crit giving it 3 chances to proc and stack Divine Aegis and also stacks Grace to 3, among other things) AND sparkles!
What healing spell do you use least for your class and why? Greater Heal, because it’s expensive, takes forever to cast, and has high over-heal. Penance is half the price, half the cast, and 100x the awesome.
What do you feel is the biggest strength of your healing class and why? Definitely damage mitigation—No other class comes even remotely close.
What do you feel is the biggest weakness of your healing class and why? Raid healing. It is just not an optimal spec for such things as whack-a-mole. Prayer of Healing is slow, not smart, and target’s-party-specific and that’s really our only multiple-target healing spell.
In a 25 man raiding environment, what do you feel, in general, is the best healing assignment for you? Main- or off-tanks.
What healing class do you enjoy healing with most and why? Priest. Lots of diversity in spell usage and I can chose to be a strong single-target healer or a strong raid-healer so I can fill all healing roles if need be.
What healing class do you enjoy healing with least and why? I’ve honestly only really healed with my Priest. I’m leveling a Druid now with the intent of going Resto at 80, but she’s level 40 and feral right now. I have plans to make a Goblin Shaman in Cataclysm. However, I do have zero desire to make a Paladin. (No offense, Lyriel!!)
What is your worst habit as a healer? Healer’s tunnel vision. Sometimes, I see only health bars. I’ve perfected the quick-glance technique, however, like you’re supposed to do when you’re driving. Quick-glance at all your mirrors while keeping your main focus on the road: that’s me healing… Road = Health Bars, Mirrors = Ground where I’m standing, Boss, Adds, etc.
What is your biggest pet peeve in a group environment while healing? Not following your healing assignment, especially in an effort to pad your healing-done numbers on Recount. NOT COOL! Oh, and healing players after a wipe is called. DON’T DO THAT!
Do you feel that your class/spec is well balanced with other healers for PvE healing? Yes, except for one thing: Discipline Priests are still the only healing class & spec that does not get spellpower from a base stat.
What tools do you use to evaluate your own performance as a healer? I run Skada Damage Meters during raids and check up on World of Logs reports afterwards.
What do you think is the biggest misconception people have about your healing class? That Discipline Priests can’t heal as well as other classes (WE CAN SO!) or that Disc is strictly a PvP spec.
What do you feel is the most difficult thing for new healers of your class to learn? The most common mistake I see new Discipline Priests do is leaving their tank assignment for any length of time without the Weakened Soul debuff. That tank should have as close to 100% uptime on Weakened Soul as humanly possible!
If someone were to try to evaluate your performance as a healer via recount, what sort of patterns would they see (i.e. lots of overhealing, low healing output, etc)? On Recount and Skada the damage-absorbed and healing-done are on two separate tables (with Recount requiring a separate addon altogether) so you’ll usually see lower healing output from a Discipline Priest. However, on combat log readers like WoW Meter Online and World of Logs, damage-absorbed and healing-done are combined to give you your best measurement of a Disc priest against other types of healers.
Haste or Crit and why? Crit, because there’s no cap whereas Haste can start causing lots of problems if your spells start casting faster than your global cooldown.
What healing class do you feel you understand least? Everything except the Priest, but I’m learning the Druid’s style. I guess Paladin would be the one I definitely least understand since I know near-nothing about then and also have no desire (at least not currently) to level one and try ‘em out.
What add-ons or macros do you use, if any, to aid you in healing? I use a combination of Grid + Clique, I use ForteXorcist to monitor CDs, and a few macros like the one that uses my Inner Focus ability on Divine Hymn (making that expensive spell free).
Do you strive primarily for balance between your healing stats, or do you stack some much higher than others, and why? Balance is really key for me, especially with the lack of the spellpower-from-a-base-stat thing. And while I prefer to gear for Crit over Haste, I try to have enough haste to keep my Flash Heal around a 1-sec cast time.
